MAGIC project

The Regione Lazio promotes actions to support the implementation of Strategic Projects and the development of links and synergies between companies, research and development centers and the higher education sector for the development of new sustainable technologies, new products and services through competitive procedures within the Smart Specialization Areas "Life Science," "Green Economy" and "Aerospace," identified by the Regione Lazio's Smart Specialization Strategy.

In this framework, Comeb SrL, together with AVIO S.p.A., Hypatia Consortium, the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), are participating in the MAGIC project, funded by the Regione Lazio, with the objective of developing technologies aimed at the full industrialization of additive manufacturing processes of nickel and copper alloys and superalloys for the production of aerospace components, of the complementary joining technologies, with particular focus on laser welding, and of certification and qualification protocols through Non-Destructive Testing (NCD). So far, Comeb has received a contribution of 70,434.60 euros for its share in the project.

The project in its totality involves Industrial Research and Experimental Development activities, being composed of a first part, aimed at acquiring new knowledge and skills to be used to develop new processes or to make a significant improvement to existing ones, and a second part in which these skills are used to implement these processes and to carry out prototyping and testing activities.

Specifically, Comeb is responsible for the realization of technology demonstrators, i.e., prototype systems, with a focus on the system for CND and supports ENEA in the realization of the robotic welding system. It also participates in the development of CND, UT systems and brazing processes and heat treatments related to them. He is also responsible for the validation of technologies and related functional demonstrators.
